Given the legal complications of playing online poker for real-money in the United States, it's hardly surprising that many bitcoin gambling sites are now offering US players a hassle free way to play anonymously online. Anyone can join a bitcoin poker room without having to supply personal information and you don't have the headache of trying to fund your player account using credit cards from US banks that are often declined. mBit is one of the first online poker rooms to also support mobile devices like the iPhone, iPad, Samsung Galaxy or Microsoft Lumia. Here's a quick overview of what it does

    • mBit accepts United States based poker players. There are no geographic restrictions.
    • mBit's mobile poker software can be played instantly on any iOS, Windows Phone or Android device.
    • Wide variety of buy-in and scheduled tournaments running throughout the day.
    • Qualify to play in any of the daily freeroll tournaments by playing 50 raked hands.
    • Cash game variants include Texas Hold'em NL and Omaha PL.
    • Get a 110% matched deposit bonus up to 1 BTC when you create your account.
    • No download needed. On mobile devices just select "Poker" from the main menu on the top left of the screen.
mBit have removed the option to play poker on their site. Bitcoin users can still play poker on iOS and Android devices with

I've been thinking about making the jump to bitcoin recently because I'm tired of waiting 4 to 6 weeks for US poker rooms to Fedex my withdrawals. When Lock poker shutdown I lost a couple of thousand dollars. What kind of traffic does the mBit poker room have? Is it part of a larger network?

mBit are part of the Elec Games poker network that is home to TerminalPoker and Instadeal. As a results, you'll find plenty of action at the lower/medium stakes games and the tournaments are pretty active too.

how do we know if our money will be safe at a bitcoin poker room?

Some bitcoin casinos, bookmakers and poker rooms have been licensed and regulated by reputable gambling commissions, which guarantees a certain level of safety and security. Unfortunately, in the world of online gambling, you can never be 100% sure that the company is not going to go out of business. Only last year, Lock Poker, which was a major U.S. facing online poker site closed down taking all its players money with it.

Regardless of whether you are playing at a bitcoin poker room or at a regular online poker room, we would recommend that you keep your bankroll to a minimum. Don't let large winning balances build up because one day the poker site might shut-down.

One of the things we like most about bitcoin poker sites is that you can cash out for free as many times as you like. Payouts also happen almost immediately so you don't have to wait weeks for a cheque that's just going to bounce.

The mBit poker room can be a little quiet on time but I was impressed with the mobile software that worked great for me on my iPad Air and HTC One. Both Omaha and Hold'em cash games were available, which I wasn't expecting and there was a decent amount of tournaments running throughout the day. Overall a pretty decent effort!

I'm guessing it had something to do with the fact that they were allowing real-money players from United States. A lot of other bitcoin poker rooms shut down around the same time so maybe they got legal advice telling them it was dangerous to continue.

No. None of the major online poker room accept bitcoin. Since they don't accept US players they probably feel that there isn't much benefit. If you want to play poker on your iPhone, Windows Phone or Android device then we would recommend you try the new Nitrogen poker app. They welcome real money players from America and their app supports Texas Hold'em and Omaha cash games, as well as a wide range of poker tournaments.
