To mark the start of the new NFL season, Google have finally allowed real money gambling apps into their Google Play app marketplace. Fantasy sports betting sites DraftKings and FanDuel are the first US-based gambling sites to get their mobile software listed in Google Play. Both apps can now be downloaded despite Google previously stating that "We don’t allow content or services that facilitate online gambling". Both the DraftKing and FanDuel apps have been available in the iOS App Store on iTunes since 2014.

Fantasy gambling is 100% legal in the United States because it is deemed to be a game of skill. However, it is unlikely that we will see a flood of other poker, casino or sportsbook apps entering Google Play anytime soon. Football betting is the busiest time of the year for sports betting in the U.S. so these apps couldn't have been approved at a better time, right at the beginning of the National Football League (NFL) season. Here's a little more information on the two apps.

    DRAFTKINGS ANDROID
    • DraftKings allows US sports bettors to legally wager on the NFL, PGA, NBA, NLB, UFC, NASCAR & more.
    • DK run daily sports contests where you can win cash prizes for picking winning teams.
    • Millions of dollars are given away each day with top prizes in excess of $1,000,000.
    • The DraftKings app is available on Android, iPhone and Windows Phone devices.
    • DraftKings is also compatible with the Apple Watch.

    FANDUEL ANDROID
    • FanDuel run daily and weekly fantasy sports betting contests that are legal in the USA.
    • It's cost as little as $1 to enter and FanDuel guarantee prizes in excess of $14,000,000 every week.
    • Simply create you fantasy team from the app and compete against your friends or join public leagues.
    • FanDuel is available on iOS, Android or Microsoft Lumia.

Looks like FanDuel and DraftKings are heading into some stormy waters. According to the New York Times the NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has ordered both fantasy betting sites to stop accepting bets from resident of New York because daily fantasy betting constituted illegal gambling. Looks like things are going to get interesting.

looks like they've won their latest legal battle in new york. a judge has ordered that they be allowed to continue operating in the state while they fight against a legal challenge by the new york attorney general. this means they'll be able to take bets for the superbowl which is a big victory.

One of the companies that process their credit card transactions has withdrawn support. If other payments processors follow suit it could spell the end of daily fantasy picks in the USA.

Hmmmm, I can't see how DK or FD are going to succeed in the UK where there isn't a culture of fantasy betting. Most online bookmaker like William Hill and Ladbrokes already offer pools and coupons which are pretty similar.

DraftKings and FanDuel looked like they were going to be permanently banned in New York but thankfully lawmakers have seen sense and have now legalised fantasy sports betting competitions in NY.
