I was about to subscribe to the Racing UK television channel this week when a friend suggested that I should subscribe to the web app service instead because it is only £10 per month. Has anyone used the Racing UK app on either a Droid tablet or smartphone? Primarily I would be interested to know.... What is the quality of the stream like? Will I be able to watch it in High Definition? How reliable is the stream? Is it always available or will there be problems watching during big races or festivals like the Aintree Grand National or King George? How does the coverage compare to the television channel? Will I be able to watch all the races? Is the app worth the £10 a month? Cheers
If you're into racing then I think it's a no brainer. It's well worth the 10 quid a month. My only complaint with this app is I had trouble accessing a stable live stream on a couple of occasions during the Cheltenham Festival this year. It really shouldn't have come as a surprise that there was going to be more demand than usual so they should have ensured they had a enough bandwidth in my opinion. It didn't bother me too much to be honest because Channel 4 were showing the racing anyway. I use it mainly for the smaller meetings that no one covers. Another option is the Bet365 app that live streams simulations of actual horse races and it's completely free. You don't even need an account with then to watch the races on your smartphone. You can see some screenshots of it in action in this discussion thread http://forums.androidbettingapps.co...imulations-for-free-via-the-Bet365-mobile-app
If you want to check out the live streaming before you subscribe, Racing UK have partnered with William Hill to offer a bet-to-view service. If you place a bet of 2 quid or more via the Racing UK app you can watch that race live on your Android providing it is being broadcast on Racing UK.
Thanks for your input guys, much appreciated. A friend of mine already subscribes to the Racing UK TV channel. Is there any way that I can use this account information to watch the racing on my phone or is the app subscription completely different from the satellite subscription? Do regular subscribers get any kind of discount if they also want to watch on their tablet or phone?
No, unfortunately it's not like Sky Sports where satellite subscribers also get access to their mobile apps. The Racing UK Sky / UPC / Virgin subscriptions are completely separate from the mobile apps subscriptions so you won't be able to use your friends account details to log-in.
For anyone interested, here is a link to the Racing UK app on Google Play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chroma.ruk.android.activity It should also be noted that you only have to pay for the live broadcasts. All the other features of the Racing U.K. app are free, such as racing news, results, betting tips and live commentary.
I tend to only pay the £10 in march for the Cheltenham Festival. For the other months it's more economical to just put a 50p each way bet via Bet365 and watch the live stream via their iOS/Android app.
So is it possible to just subscribe during March for the Cheltenham Festival or will they try to get you on a 12 month contact?
To coincide with the beginning of the 2014 National Hunt season, Racing UK are offering a free 1 month trial so you can see for yourself whether it's worth it before you subscribe http://forums.androidbettingapps.co...th-free-trial-of-their-iPhone-and-Android-app
Yes, you can subscribe for just 1 month but it will cost you £15. Subscribing for the full year is cheaper.
