UK gets its first licensed bitcoin gambling site

While punters in the United Kingdom have been gambling at bitcoin-only bookies, casinos and poker sites for quiet some time, major gambling operators who are licensed by the UK Gambling Commission have until now been unable to accept BTC from their players. However, thanks to recent changes in the commissions regulations concerning crypto-currencies, UK licensed gambling sites are now allowed to process bitcoin deposits and withdrawals.

The first gambling operator in the UK to take advantage of these changes is NetBet.co.uk who have just teamed up with payment processor BitPay to enable bitcoin payments. NetBet are a UK sportsbook, live casino and poker site. Sports betting and casino games are available via their iOS and Android compatible web-app.

 

I think many of the big UK bookies like Ladbrokes and William Hill have their headquarters in the Isle Of Man so they are probably waiting for the Isle of Man gaming commission to permit bitcoin gambling first before they can think about offering it in the UK.
