Samsung to release wearable watch. Could this be the perfect gambling gadget?

According to this Mashable report Samsung are planning to release a wearable watch next month (September 2013). If they can pull this off and release a quality product they are sure to annoy Apple who's long talked about iWatch has yet to appear.

My question is, will this watch be any good for gambling? I know it's pretty easy to take your phone out of your pocket if you want to place a bet or play some casino games, but I think it would be even better if you could play games like slots on your watch. Anytime you're even remotely bored, just lift your hand and play some 5 reel slots.

Does anyone see any other possibilities for the watch for sports betting or poker?

The Samsung Galaxy Gear has been released now and it's been a little bit of a disappointment. It certainly hasn't garnered as much interest as Google Glass. I fear they may have rushed it a little and may have been better off continuing R&D until they got it right. Apple certainly seem to be taking their time, their iWatch has been in development for years at this point so it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

I think the Watch would be useful if you are at a sporting event. It could use geo location to bring up the latest in-play odds for the game. You could then authorise the bet by using your thumbprint similar to the technology used in the iPhone 5S.

I think Google Glass has far more potential for sports betting than any watch. Thanks to game recognition software you will be able to get live in-play betting odds while you watch any sports or horse race on the television or attend the event.

    Hey Toby

It looks like developers will be banned from creating gambling apps for Google Glass. According to the "Content policies" section of the Google Glass Developer Policies document, "Gambling: We don’t allow content or services that facilitate online gambling, including but not limited to, online casinos, sports betting and lotteries." I agree that Google Glass has huge potential for gambling so hopefully Google will reverse this decision sometime in the near future.

I presume Google Glass will be running an open version of Android that will allow owners install non-Google Play apps? Even if Google ban gambling apps from Glass it will only be a matter of time before someone cracks or unlocks the OS to allow any type of adult orientated app to be installed.

I think initially apps for Google Glass will only be available via the official MyGlass app that you can download from both the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

There's is a lot of confusion now as to whether Google Glass has a future. Google have stopped development on the current version of the device because the wearable device simply never became widely popular. Google say they are working on a new version but many people are skeptical about this. Maybe wearing a camera will never be acceptable or maybe Google were just a few years ahead of time.

I think now all attention is turning to the Apple Watch. If internet gambling companies are able to utilise the iWatch for sports betting, slots or other casino games, we'll start to see similar apps appear for Android watches and other wearable devices.

even apple seem to be having problems selling their iwatch which doesn't bode well for wearable gadgets.

So we've already seen a bunch of sports betting sites like Ladbrokes, Draft Kings and William Hill launch betting apps for the Apple Watch. Have any of them released similar app for Android powered smart watches?

No yet. The Android smartwatch market is still probably too small right now but it's growing fast. Apple have sold over 15 million Apple Watches over the past year so online gambling operators are obviously eager to develop software for the iWatch first.

Has to be the Samsung Gear smartwatch. I think the Moto 360, Reloj and Sony Smartwatch are gaining in popularity too. It's a shame there isn't any real-money gambling apps for Android smartwatches yet. According to this list they are only available for Apple Watch http://www.androidsportsbetting.com/news/top-5-smartwatch-sports-betting-apps
